Our Favorite Metal Shelves
I know I sound weird for gushing over these...but hear me out. They tick all of the boxes.
We need shelving on about half of our projects. In the past, we’ve used Project Source from Lowe’s for an ultra-budget-friendly option, Gladiator (especially the white coated racks) for a more luxe look, and matched a few existing units here and there.
Then one day, I stumbled across these beauties. They seemed too good to be true:
Large weight capacity
Hidden adjuster holes (…what do we call these) — this is what drew me in
Adjustable height shelves
Accessories like hooks and support bars
Solid shelves that aren’t particleboard (it gives me the heebie jeebies, I am not sure why)
WHEELS, WHAT
$200ish bucks for a huge unit
They have to be terrible quality, right? Wrong.
Since purchasing the first unit (for my own personal use), I’ve bought several more and now we use them almost weekly in our organizing projects.
I’ve grown to love these other things about them as well:
They assemble in minutes; each comes with a plastic mallet, and you really don’t need much else. This was a fun novelty at first, but now we have about 40 mallets in my garage and it’s starting to feel silly. Client gifts?? Sculpture? I’ll donate to Habitat at some point, I’m sure.
Hear me out: the giant shelf separators are amazing to do lists for our team on site. This will not be helpful for many other people, but if you have kiddos they may like the “large canvas.”
The brackets can flip to create flat shelves (for bins) or shelves with edges for stacks and things that might roll around. Genius.
The shelves actually look great: I thought the faux wood would look cheesy and I’d just use the white side, but I actually really like it. White is always an option though for a monochromatic look.
The wheels could be highway worthy. They weigh 50,000 pounds, but they kindof have to in order to be functional.
We have had zero issues with dents, dings, or scrunched shelving in transit.
And last and least: I can attest to the waterproof quality. Ugh. These guys took 7 consecutive hours of indoor rainfall in my basement during our house flood, and they didn’t warp or rust. Can’t say the same for my art, jackets, towels, rugs…. brb need to sob
